All About Glenora Weaving Shop

In 1998 they started the Glenora Mail Order company which is now her main focus. But Christine is still a passionate felt maker herself and stayed involved in judging at local shows.

The Glenora Weaving and Wool mail order shop has gradually taken up most of her time. She also runs a shop from her Gerringong home catching up with customers and discussing their work and needs. Her goal was and still is to promote Australian wool and provide products that are affordable for everyone.

Andria's Story

Since a very young age I've been lucky enough to be surrounded and immersed in textiles and creative family and friends. My grandmother taught me how to weave and knit and I've always admired her fine spinning. My mother has a very creative mind and is an amazing feltmaker, she has taught me all she has learnt over her many years of felting.

I've entered local agricultural shows from the age of eight in the spinning and weaving and other textile sections, and volunteered my time where possible. I enjoy all forms of textiles and I intend to pass on my love for creating and textile skills to my daughter.

I'm a qualified chef by trade, and took time off once I fell pregnant. I love spending time with my daughter, so when the chance to buy Glenora arose I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to make a change and work from home, giving me more time with my family.

As a long time customer and friend of Christine's I wanted to keep the Glenora business in the local area and continue providing the community with quality service, wool supplies and products.

Christine Sloan’s Story

My love for wool began when I was growing up on our sheep property in the Riverina and it has never abated! I worked in the shearing shed as a child and loved the smell and feel of freshly shorn wool. My grandmother taught me to knit and crochet at an early age and for most of my adult years I have enjoyed spinning, knitting, felting and creating wool garments.

In 1995 my husband Bob and I purchased, relocated and restored the old timber School in Gerringong and established the Wool Workshop which became a mecca for all fibre craftspeople. The textile gallery retailed beautiful hand-crafted garments, our extensive workshop program was very successful and we also stocked spinning, weaving, felting and knitting supplies.

I thoroughly enjoyed tutoring and indulging my wool passion and we achieved an excellent reputation for our high quality textiles, winning many awards as a tourist destination.

After ten years we sold the Old Schoolhouse Wool Workshop to focus our energies on the expanding mail order business which now had over 2000 customers because we had also purchased the New Zealand branch of Glenora craft

This added another dimension to this very busy textile hub.

So, I’m still able to indulge my wool passion after almost fifty years working and creating in the textile and fibre world, I hope that you can have this pleasure also!
